My Project Car





Engine

The engine will be getting an acid bath and will be fully deatiled with chromed, polished and painted parts. Nothing overly flash but definetly better than stock. It will be ported and polished and if the budget permits, balanced and blueprinted.

There are going to be plenty of z cars faster than mine, I'm just aming to get a substantial or noticeable difference over stock without losing too much driveability.


Cam

I plan to get a 'Stage 2 Cam'

It will either be the one from motorsport (pictured) or a locally ground cam with similar characteristics [$549.95 US]

Motorsport Stage 2 Cam Kit

'Grind: 17033. Lift(In/Ex): .480/.480. Duration(In/Ex): 274/274. Characteristics: Good idle, power range 2000-6000 RPM. Great slalom grind, works well with stock carbs or triple Webers.'

Obviously this will include new rocker arms, lash pads + springs etc.


Edit: I will now be getting a custom ground cam made to suite my engine, gearbox, diff combo. Apprently this will be better in terms of driveability and performance etc.


Exhaust

I will probably be going for a locally made exhaust with 2 1/2 piping. This all depends on how far I go with the engine but I can't see me needing a 3 inch system.

Another option might be the "Twice Pipes" setup.

I also plan to get a coated header either from motorsport (pictured [$289.95 US]) or locally made. If I get one locally made I will be getting it coated by/with HPC.

Carbs

I have just purchased a set of triple webers off of ebay. [$1350 US]

I haven't received them yet but the description on the page is as follows:

Triple Weber Setup

As mentioned these Webers don't come with the linkages. I will probably be purchasing these from Weber Carbs Direct or Pierce Manifolds or Philspeed.

Edit: The guy apparently has the linkages and they have been chromed. I purchased these of him for an extra $100, Saves me the hassle.



A new Holley Premium Electric Fuel Pump [$129.95 US] from Motorsport will be used to feed the extra fuel to the carbs. Do not get the blue pump unless you need the extra flow, I have read in the forums that they are very noisy.

I ended up purchasing a new Red Fuel Pump off Ebay for [$155 AUS].

Engine Rebuild Kit + Forged Pistons

I'm looking at getting a high performance engine rebuild kit from IPP (Import Performance Parts) [$1259]. This would include:

Complete Gasket Set
Copper Performance Head Gasket
ROSS/Wiseco Forged Performance Pistons
(86, 86.5, 87, 88mm bore) and
(9-1, 10-1, 11-1, 12-1 comp ratio)
Performance Rings
Performance Wrist Pins
TOGA HP Main Bearings (std, 10)*
TOGA HP Rod Bearings (std, 10)*
ARP Rod Bolts #202-6003 (9mm)

If I go with these electric mods I will upgrade my alternator aswell (the old one mightn't handle the load especially with the audio gear and lighting). Z Specialties have a 105 amp [$199.95 US] or 120 amp [$234.95 US] replacement. Stock on a 77 Z should be 60 amp.
